This is probably going to be the best muscle car you can buy until the other guys get done with their refreshes, and it improves not only upon itself, but upon it's competitors in nearly every way. A few hundred pounds here or there wasn't going to change that. Quit your whining.
The outgoing model was one of the best track worthy Muscle cars you could buy. It held it's own against an E92 M3. If this model offers even a slight improvement on that, it will be one of the greatest performance bargains ever, and few hundred pounds here or there is not going to change that. Quit your whining.
If you don't like the idea of a heavier mustang, you could always just buy one of those other numerous, sub-3000lb, sub-$40k V8 sports cars...oh wait, no you can't, because that doesn't exist. Quit your whining.
We weren't ever getting a V8 BRZ from ford. If that's what you want, get a BRZ, get an LS1 or whatever V8 you want, and get to work. More work, less whining.
Are you going to buy one? Rent one? Drive one for five minutes? Then how does a trivially heavier mustang impact you exactly? It doesn't, that's how. Quit your whining.

Probably good to point out that this isn't directed at anyone on Oppositelock.

The Mustang Ecoboost is one of the best ideas Ford has ever had, apart from the name (should've gone with SVO or something). Hopefully it will live up to its potential.

But the Mustang isn't a sports car....

Damn right! We should all be grateful the 2015 Mustang is able to match the abilities and specs of the 2010 Camaro!

Calling it SVO would be cool, but that would mean Ford had to bring back Special Vehicle Operations.
edit: now that I think about it, Ford did bring back SVO - that's the internal name for Lincoln Motor Company, except they do little air quotes when they said "special".

Owned a 2011 GT CS. Will own the next generation. Good post.

It's my pony and I'll cry if I want to - cry if I want to, cry if I want to. You would cry too, if it happened to you.

I don't care about the weight gain, especially because it's being put to good use for an IRS.
I do care how people gave the Camaro shit for so long about how much it weighed when the Mustang going to weigh close to the same now.

Fair enough. I just think calling it the Mustang Ecoboost is a rather lackluster and unimaginative branding strategy. Sounds like it's supposed to be competing with a Prius. Hell, even just go consistent with your other platforms and call it the Mustang ST. Or drop the "O" and go with SV "Sports Vehicle". Like how they dropped the "V" from "SVT" to now stand for "Sports Technology"

See THAT is s a great idea! You could have the ST performance line for people, and convince them to start at a Focus or Fiesta and then graduate up to buying a Mustang ST.

Also, the last paragraph. I'm the FWD/AWD Honda and VW guy. Pretty sure I'm the one that "won't be buying one".

PS9 is referring to people that bitch and moan about new cars we don't plan on buying. This would be like me ever commenting on a Ferrari or Ford article since I don't plan on buying either.

Well Ford doesn't have a direct sports car entry (a la Vette) so Ford guys say the Mustang is.

Well I'll have a Mustang one day. My twisted fascination with the 4.0 V6 is well documented...

They had one made by a guy, but they went and pissed him off, so he left.

Do u have a link to the official 2015 Mustang's HP and curb weight specs?

When people complain about cars they have no intention or prospect of driving.

Hi.
I know it's not exactly what you describe, but it does support your point. There aren't really any options for high output, lightweight cars. The Z is 3200 lbs and 330hp, which isn't V8 coyote fast, but it does fit nicely between the Mustang and BRZ/Miata options.
![]() 06/03/2014 at 14:03 |

No, and neither do any of you. We just have the WHOLE auto journalist community telling us that it's going to be heavier. There's no way they can all be right, right?
![]() 06/03/2014 at 14:12 |

-Not V8 Powered
-Not Sub-3k lbs
-Not selling all that well, due to imminent proximity with ~$22k cars that are almost as fast. Hope the next Z gets some more power, or otherwise becomes fast enough to be competitive again.

No, there isn't, when they are all repeating unsubstatiated baseless stories for clicks. Everyone repeating a story with no factual basis doesn't make it true.
![]() 06/03/2014 at 16:16 |

I'm sorry. I wasn't aware that you had a copy of the specs saying that it wasn't going to gain weight.
And also, it's not 2005 anymore. It's become common knowledge that click baiting can permanently damage the credibility and use of your site. I know there's some outlets out there that still do it, but sites like Jalopnik and Autoblog have a lot more to lose than to gain by engaging in the practice.

The hellcat will be a faster - but not fundamentally better - Challenger. It simply doesn't have the track car potency this gen Mustang and Camaro have, which is fine since it's never claimed to be a world beater. Gonna be a while before we see a new platform carrying the challenger name.
![]() 06/03/2014 at 17:41 |

Where did I say it wasn't going to gain weight? My point is neither I, nor you, nor, more importantly, the automotive journalists you trust unequivocally, know. So why get mad at me for a strawman of your own invention (the claim that I know for sure), but give Jalopnik a pass for reporting misinformation as fact, retracting it, and then reporting unverified rumors?
And just because you don't see click bait for what it is doesn't change what it is. These "articles" about the Mustang's weight gain are not based on anything factual. They are speculations and rumors framed in a way to sound like facts without actually being them. Looks a lot like click bait to me. The only story about the Mustang's weight worth publishing is the one documenting official figures from Ford. They will be out soon enough, which makes Jalopnik's click baiting that much more shameless.
